Benco Dental Ranked #25 Nationwide Among 2023's Best Workplaces In Health Care™ by Fortune and Great Place to Work®

Posted on Thursday, September 21, 2023

For the fifth time, Benco Dental has been recognized for its generous, caring and innovative culture reflecting a genuine commitment to meeting the diversity of people’s needs inside the workplace and beyond as rated by associates themselves.

Benco Dental once again made the short list among just 40 large companies for the 2023 Fortune Best Workplaces in Health Care. This is the company's fifth time being honored in total, and now for a second consecutive year. Previously, Benco Dental was ranked among the Best Workplaces In Health Care for 2022, Best Workplaces in Health Care & Biopharma™ for 2018, and among the Best Workplaces in Health Care in 2016 and 2017.

The Best Workplaces in Health Care award is based on analysis of survey responses from over 208,000 employees from Great Place To Work Certified companies in the health care industry. (To be eligible for the list, companies must first be Great Place to Work Certified.)

"We never take our commitment to being an exceptional workplace for granted. Having our results independently validated and recognized by Fortune and Great Place to Work ensures we're always leading as a successful recruiter of top talent by providing a welcoming, engaging, challenging environment where our jobs have genuine meaning," said Joanne Stitzer, Benco Dental's Vice President, Customer and Associate Engagement. "I think this is best reflected by the numbers themselves: 87% of our associates say Benco is a great place to work, compared to just 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company."

As the only large, national, full-service dental technology distributor that's family owned, Benco Dental leverages our independence to foster a culture informed by the needs of customers and associates, not quarterly results or Wall Street. The work is exciting, fun and always new because associates serve a customer base comprised of the industry's most passionate early adopters, who invest nearly one in four dollars on products introduced in just the last three years. “Creating a vibrant workplace culture that draws the best talent in health care is vital for the success of the leaders in this highly competitive industry," says Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell. "It is also what’s needed to ignite innovation and deliver best-in-class performance.”

The Best Workplaces in Health Care list is highly competitive. Great Place To Work, the global authority on workplace culture, determines its lists using its proprietary For All™ Methodology to evaluate and certify thousands of organizations in America’s largest ongoing annual workforce study, based on over 1.3 million survey responses and data from companies representing more than 7.5 million employees this year alone. Today, we proudly introduce the first fruit of this collaboration: NeoTell, an affordable, rapid, and precise device designed to measure implant stability. NYU College of Dentistry Advances Aesthetic Dentistry Programs with Alumnus Michael Apa

Posted on Wednesday, September 20, 2023

Internationally renowned education program and new clinical suite will honor leader in aesthetic dentistry

"Make the most out of what you worked so hard to obtain.”

This inspirational advice in NYU College of Dentistry’s Class of 2003 yearbook came from Michael Apa, DDS, then a newly minted dentist with a passion for aesthetics. In the 20 years since his graduation from NYU, Dr. Apa has helped to transform the evolving field of aesthetic dentistry and distinguished himself as one of its leaders.

Now, Dr. Apa is “making the most” of his achievements by investing in the dentists of tomorrow and enhancing the College’s programs in aesthetic dentistry.

In recognition of Dr. Apa and his contributions to the field, NYU Dentistry will rename its education program in aesthetic dentistry the Apa Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetics. The College is also establishing the Apa Aesthetic Suite at the College, a state-of-the-art clinical space and the first permanent home for aesthetic dentistry education at NYU. These advances are made possible by a transformational gift from Dr. Apa.

“We are so grateful that Dr. Apa has chosen to support NYU College of Dentistry, the institution that shaped him as a dentist and set him on his path to success,” said Charles N. Bertolami, DDS, DMedSc, the Herman Robert Fox Dean of NYU Dentistry. “Dr. Apa is recognized internationally as a leader and innovator in aesthetic dentistry, and we are eager to incorporate his experience and vision to further strengthen our programs.”

“Having found a home at NYU during my time as a student, it is my hope that the next generation of dentists will share that experience, and they too will set out to have an impact on our profession and the world around them,” said Dr. Apa.

Dr. Apa will collaborate with Anabella Oquendo, DDS, director of the renamed Apa Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetics, to provide input on bringing international and U.S. dentists state-of-the-art training that restores and enhances natural smiles. The renowned, one-year program has attracted practicing dentists from 47 countries to study the latest techniques in aesthetic dentistry.

“Channeling Dr. Apa’s expertise and enthusiasm into our clinical fellowship program will bring new vitality to our training in aesthetic dentistry, a field that goes beyond appearances, intertwining beauty, health, and function. As we enhance smiles, we elevate confidence and promote overall oral health, which contribute to improved well-being,” said Dr. Oquendo, the assistant dean for international programs at NYU Dentistry.

The new Apa Aesthetic Suite, designed in collaboration with Dr. Apa, will be located on the first floor of NYU Dentistry. Planning for renovations to the existing clinical space will begin this fall, and the suite will open in fall 2024.

“As dentists, we work at the intersection of health and art. I look forward to helping to transform this space into a suite that reflects the design and energy of our craft and inspires both patients and clinicians,” added Dr. Apa.

As one of the world’s most sought-after aesthetic dentists, with practices in New York, Los Angeles, and Dubai, Dr. Apa has maintained his connection to NYU Dentistry as a lecturer and mentor to dental students. His passion for aesthetic dentistry blossomed while at NYU, where he founded NYU Dentistry’s Aesthetics Society and was part of the College’s Aesthetics Honors Program.

About the Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award

The Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award is the only program of its kind, earning coverage from the dental media across North America. Since the inaugural presentation in 2009, the Best of Class Technology Awards have grown to occupy a unique space in dentistry by creating awareness in the community of manufacturers that are driving the discussion as to how practices will operate now and in the future.

The 2023 Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award winners were selected by a panel of the most prominent technology leaders in dentistry: Paul Feuerstein, DMD, Editor-In-Chief for Dentistry Today, John Flucke, DDS, Technology Editor for Dental Products Report, Marty Jablow, DMD, known as America’s technology coach, Pamela Maragliano-Muniz, DMD, Editor-In-Chief of Dental Economics, Chris Salierno, DDS, Chief Dental Officer at Tend, and Lou Shuman, DMD, CAGS, founder and creator of the Best of Class Technology Awards.

Over the course of each year, the panel members seek out and conduct research on potentially practice-changing technologies, culminating with deliberations on nominees and final voting. Panelists are precluded from voting in any category where they have consulting relationships. The entire selection process is conducted and managed on a not-for-profit basis.

In mid-September DPR will release a video presentation of the awards featuring the members of the selection panel sharing the reasoning behind the selection of each of the Best of Class technologies.

A convincing workflow

Ivoclar has designed a direct restorative workflow that combines esthetics, quality and efficiency. From isolation to appropriate preventive care, Ivoclar offers seamlessly coordinated products.

• OptraGate® is the solution when effective and rapid relative isolation is essential. The latex-free lip and cheek retractor provides a clear view of the treatment field and is comfortable to wear for patients.

• Adhese® Universal is a single-component, light-cured adhesive for direct and indirect bonding procedures and all etching protocols.2  The product is delivered in the innovative, user-friendly VivaPen, which provides up to four times more applications per ml of content, boosting the economic efficiency of the practice.

The products of the Tetric® Line are the solution for all cavities in minimally invasive restorative procedures.3  The Tetric Line comprises four coordinated composite materials that ensure an efficient workflow and excellent esthetic results. The four-millimetre composites Tetric PowerFill and Tetric PowerFlow are distinguished by their lifelike esthetic properties and reliable curing behaviour at short exposure times, enabling time savings of up to 51% in the posterior region.4 The universal composites Tetric EvoFlow and Tetric Prime are suitable for both the anterior and posterior region. Tetric EvoFlow is flowable under pressure and stable when handled. The composite can be placed accurately, making it well suited for minimally invasive anterior restorations and for use as a liner. Tetric Prime is a sculptable composite. Because of its distinctive chameleon effect and excellent handling properties, it is especially suitable for straightforward and esthetic replacements of lost tooth structure.

Effortless composite contouring is accomplished with OptraSculpt®. These instruments are especially designed for the non-stick shaping and contouring of composite resin.

• Bluephase® PowerCure curing light offers intelligent light-curing by the push of a button. The curing light enables a reliable curing process at short exposure times starting from 3 seconds. Equipped with the patented Polyvision technology, the Bluephase PowerCure is a proper ‘team player’ and actively supports dentists in the curing process with the help of the integrated curing assistant.

Final polishing is achieved with OptraGloss®. The universal polisher is suitable for extraoral and intraoral high-gloss polishing, providing smooth and shiny restoration surfaces in just one step.

For the effective protection of finished restorations, application of a fluoride-containing protective varnish is recommended to strengthen the protection against caries and erosion, to treat hypersensitive tooth necks, to increase enamel acid resistance and to prevent sensitivities.
