Posted on August 16, 2012

Louisville, KY:  August 16, 2012 – The Whip Mix Corporation of Louisville, Kentucky announces that Mr. James W. Myers has been named president, succeeding Mr. Allen F. Steinbock who will continue as the Whip Mix chief executive officer and chairman of the board. However Allen’s focus will remain on strategic issues, shareholder relations and board development. He will continue to call on key customers in dental education, practices, laboratories, distribution, and manufacturing around the world.

A Louisville native, Jim Myers has been at Whip Mix for 10 years as vice president of manufacturing, managing the activities of the Louisville and Ft. Collins, Colorado plants. In 2011 the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers awarded Jim the Kentucky Manufacturing Employee of the Year Award in recognition of his excellence in 4 areas: Innovation, Teamwork, Community Service and Leadership. Jim previously spent thirteen years in the local facilities of Lear Corporation and Teledyne Packaging in a variety of supply chain and manufacturing management assignments.

In announcing the changes to Whip Mix team members, out-going president Allen Steinbock cited Jim’s key qualities, “Jim’s people skills, his understanding of global logistics and his passion for making things that solve our customer’s problems made the selection a clear Board decision. I will support him in every possible way as our ninety-three year old family business continues to adapt its products and services to the digital revolution that is changing the delivery of dentistry.”

Whip Mix was founded in 1919 by Edmund Steinbock Sr. to make and sell a mechanized system for making cast gold crowns in a dental lab or office using the lost wax casting process. In the 93 years since then, the Company has expanded both its product line and customer base, now manufacturing a wide variety of dental laboratory and dentist professional products and exporting them regularly to more than eighty countries. This focus on exports has been nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s E and E-Star Awards and regionally in 2011 by the Governor’s Award for International Trade Excellence.

Jim Myers, the first non-family President in the Company history, says, “I have seen the careful, thoughtful leadership that the Steinbocks lead by example on a daily basis.  I am honored to be asked to continue this family legacy.”
