Septodont Announces New Strategic Alliance With IDU

Posted on Thursday, December 21, 2017

Septodont, the Global Leader in Dental Pain Management, announces a new strategic alliance with Importaciones Dental Universitario (IDU) based in Cali, Colombia.

Importaciones Dental Universitario (IDU) was founded in 1996 by Abraham Paramo. IDU's business model began as supplying high quality imported dental products that were focused at the university level customer. This brought greater awareness into the Columbian dental community for premium products. Today, IDU is one of Colombia's largest overall importers and resellers of dental products.

The Septodont & IDU alliance represents a key opportunity to launch the Septodont product line into a country that has been challenging to penetrate. With the ultimate goal of organically helping IDU to build on their early business successes, the newly formed alliance represents the perfect scenario for both organizations to expand their presence and expertise in Colombia.

New AAE.org Website Transforms Members' and Patients' Online Experience

Posted on Tuesday, December 19, 2017

The American Association of Endodontists has developed and launched a new website that offers more content and easier navigation for members, dental professionals and patients. The enhanced site’s homepage provides immediate access to a wealth of resources and exclusive benefits, such as a members-only website area, subscription to the Journal of Endodontics and to AAE Connection — the AAE’s members-only online discussion and networking platform. The AAE also is showcasing its member e-newsletter — Communiqué — in a fresh new way on the new site.

The new aae.org is dedicated to the important work and distinct needs of members, dental professionals and patients. Crisp, clean designs liven up each page and make it easy for all visitors to find information quickly. Prominent buttons ensure efficient navigation through materials and resources to support all needs. The new site features a simplified, topic-based menu, with content reorganized for quick, intuitive searching.

The new site allows dental professionals to access numerous clinical tools, such as guidelines and position statements, including the recently released Endodontic Competency White Paper. The popular ENDODONTICS: Colleagues for Excellence newsletter is available to provide trusted, credible resources for the dental profession. Dental professionals of all variations have a wide range of tools at their fingertips on the site. Members have access to exclusive members-only content in the new Member Center, which offers a broad collection of practice management resources.

“We designed the new website to ensure that each of our primary audiences — members, patients and general practitioners — are aware of the resources that the AAE has for them,” said AAE Executive Director Kenneth J. Widelka, CAE, CPA. “The new aae.org will connect visitors with authoritative endodontic resources using easy-to-use website technology.”

Educational meetings, events, resources and support are at the core of the AAE’s offerings for members and the broader dental community. The new website will help visitors explore the AAE’s many educational programs, including online CE, and meeting and workshop information.

In addition to providing a wealth of educational resources to members, professionals and patients, the AAE is the voice of its members in advocating one single standard of endodontic care, enhancing understanding of the clinical complexities of the specialty, and emphasizing the importance of treatment planning and referral to an endodontist. These advocacy and outreach objectives complement the Association’s own mission, values and strategic plan; and the new site is a key development for elevating these endeavors.

“The newly redesigned aae.org aligns with our core purpose, vision and values and serves as an effective vehicle for propelling forth our guiding principles,” Widelka said. “It also strengthens and furthers our strategic priorities: to promote the importance of retaining natural teeth, establish a single standard for quality endodontics, and develop a global outreach and membership development plan.”

Based on member and patient feedback, AAE also carefully developed a new site geared toward patients to help them better understand tooth pain and the value of saving their teeth. Patients will also learn about endodontics, and use enhanced search capabilities to an endodontist. The important research, education, outreach and development work of the Foundation for Endodontics, along with the standards of excellence exemplified by the American Board of Endodontics, also are being showcased in new ways.

Visit the new aae.org to view its fully redesigned family of websites.

Any outlets with an interest in endodontics, including clinical and patient information, are encouraged to link to AAE web pages to educate a wider audience about the importance of saving teeth.

Research Published Showing the Canary System Can Accurately Detect Caries Beneath the Intact Margins of Amalgam Restorations

Posted on Tuesday, December 19, 2017

The Open Dentistry Journal has just published a study entitled “In Vitro Detection of Caries Around Amalgam Restorations using Four Different Modalities” ( https://benthamopen.com/contents/pdf/TODENTJ/TODENTJ-11-609.pdf ). This paper concluded that The Canary System® can detect caries under the intact margins of amalgam restorations more accurately than Spectra, DIAGNOdent and visual examination.

Finding caries beneath amalgam margins is a challenging clinical problem because of the nature of the material. Typically, older amalgam restorations may cause marginal staining but, visually these margins may appear intact and sound. This study found that visual examination could not detect caries.

Amalgam is dense, radiopaque and reflects light from its surface. The glow or fluorescence from the amalgam prevented Spectra from detecting any marginal caries. DIAGNOdent was also unable to consistently differentiate sound from carious tissue at various distances from the amalgam margins. It was only able to detect 45% to 75% of the caries depending upon the handpiece’s distance from the amalgam margin. However, The Canary System was able to detect 95% of the lesions around the amalgam margins.

“The Canary System can detect and monitor tooth decay beneath the edges of fillings, crowns and bridges; one of the most common clinical conditions that leads to the failure of these restorations. When an amalgam is placed, x-rays can only detect tooth decay in certain limited areas and not along its visible margins”, said Dr. Stephen Abrams, co-founder of Quantum Dental Technologies. “Early detection of tooth decay, before it is seen on an x-ray or detected with visual inspection means that dentists can treat problems before the decay has destroyed large amounts of vital tooth structure compromising the tooth’s structural integrity.”

The Canary System, with its unique crystal structure diagnostics, can, quantify, image, monitor and record changes in the structure of enamel, dentin and cementum. It can detect caries beneath opaque sealants, around the margins of restorations, around orthodontic brackets and beneath interproximal, occlusal and smooth surfaces. The Canary Cloud enables dentists to view and manage this data and track Canary usage in the office.

Dentsply Sirona Launches New Precision VPS Impression Material Delivery System

Posted on Friday, December 15, 2017

Just one year ago Dentsply Sirona Restorative introduced a completely redesigned VPS offering, Aquasil® Ultra+ Smart Wetting® Impression Material. By reengineered how we create and measure success with physical impressions, we were able to push VPS technology and merge state-of-the-art intraoral hydrophilicity and intraoral tear strength to deliver better-than-ever results—optimizing performance in all areas, not just one.

Today we are excited to push delivery performance to the next level and reset the expectations of what clinicians should expect from their delivery systems with a powerful and radically new way to deliver low viscosity materials, digit Power® Dispenser.

digit Power Dispenser is a battery powered precision delivery system for Aquasil Ultra+ material’s low viscosity products available in digit Power cartridges and is available for purchase through approved Dentsply Sirona distributors.

Precision and Control at your Fingertips

Developed with input from clinicians around the world, digit Power Dispenser tackles the key challenges present during the final impression taking procedure—access, visibility, precision, control, predictability, material waste and compliance.

Current low viscosity impression delivery systems are built around the material—not the procedure or clinician—requiring extra steps to backfill a syringe or wrestle with a 50mL dispenser. These systems fail to fully acknowledge the true needs of delivery. digit Power Dispenser was engineered to deliver a unique pen grip design with power delivery to get clinicians up to 63% closer to the prepared tooth at up to 42% less weight and 84% less force requirements than traditional 50mL dispensers. This closer proximity and improved ergonomic experience allows clinicians to gain more control and precision and focus on what matters most, taking a great impression.

From pre-set built in timers to available accessories, like a wireless foot control, clinicians have a lot to discover with digit Power Dispenser and Aquasil Ultra+ material.

No-Compromise Material and Delivery Combination

Aquasil Ultra+ impression material’s market leading intraoral hydrophilicity and intraoral tear strength are designed to help clinicians capture impressive detail from the moment the material is dispensed and keep that detail upon removal. When paired with the full delivery capabilities of digit Power Dispenser, clinicians are able to avoid compromise from the beginning of their procedure and after.

By merging best in class impression material with best in class delivery, Dentsply Sirona Restorative provides clinicians with a better way to achieve predictability and results.
