Fulcrum Grant Winners Named

Posted on Monday, January 12, 2015

Tallahassee, Florida - The Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology (“The Foundation” or “FDLT”), announced the five winners of the 2014 Fulcrum Grant:

Maria Caro (Sunrise, FL)

Chris Roman (Washington, PA)

Valerie Kalscheur (Poynette, WI)

Betty Zoller (Waterloo, IN)

Rosaleen Marion (Vestal, NY)

The Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology created this grant in order to support the Foundation’s purpose by making higher-level education more accessible to dental laboratory technicians. Up to $2,500 of grant funds will be awarded to each recipient in order to supplement expenses relating to an approved continuing education program to be attended in 2015.

In considering grant recipients, the Foundation considered the programs which the applicant wished to attend and by which body it was approved. In order for a program to be considered eligible for Fulcrum Grant funds, it must be approved by NBC, ADA CERP, or AGD.

This brand-new, competitive grant-selection process awards winners based on submitted materials that include planned usage of funds, and a contingency that the recipient must provide the Foundation with testimonial (web video submissions or written) about receiving the grant, attending the course, and how this experience affected their DLT career.

Grant recipients may re-apply in future years, as long as a report detailing use/impact of the grant funds is provided with the application. Those interested in applying for next year’s grants can apply online at  https://www.dentallabfoundation.org/resources/fulcrum-grant/.

FDLT relies heavily on donations from individuals as well as companies to fund the scholarship and grant programs. Donations are accepted throughout the year. To support the Foundation, visit https://nadl.org/dltf/donate-online.cfm.

Report: Global Dental Imaging Market Expected to Reach $2.68 Billion By 2019

Posted on Friday, January 30, 2015

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Research and Marketshas announced the addition of the "Dental Imaging Market by Technology, Method, Application & by End User - Global Trends & Forecasts to 2019" report to their offering. The global dental imaging market is expected to reach $2.68 billion by 2019 from $1.69 billion in 2014, growing at a CAGR of 9.7% from 2014 to 2019.

The global dental imaging market is categorized on the basis of technology, method, application, end user, and geography. The dental CBCT segment is expected to register the highest growth rate in the dental imaging market, by technology, during the forecast period. The high growth is attributed to its technological advantages such as high-resolution imaging, three-dimensional views of objects, and pre-surgical virtual surgeries.

Major factors contributing to growth of the dental imaging market include technological advancements such as CBCT, rising awareness for oral care and increasing disposable income in emerging economies, growth impetus of cosmetic dentistry, and a shift towards digital dental imaging systems. Furthermore, an increasing aging population and hence oral diseases is another major factor providing impetus for growth of this market. By 2050, more than 20% of the global population is expected to be aged over 65 years (Source: World Health Organization). This age group accounts for a larger chunk of the population in developed countries.

The growth in aging population has resulted in a corresponding rise in the number of individuals suffering from oral problems. The relatively untapped markets of the Asian region and advent of digital imaging in dental care have opened an array of opportunities for the dental imaging market. However, high cost of instruments, and lack of reimbursement for dental care especially in the developing regions are expected to restrain the growth of this market. Moreover, lack of dental laboratory technicians is also expected to hinder the growth of this market to some extent.

The emerging Asian markets such as China and India, industrial shift towards digital X-ray, and dental CBCT are expected to serve as new revenue pockets for the dental imaging market in the coming five years.

AACD to Offer New Digital Member Platform

Posted on Friday, January 30, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (1/30/2015)— In advance of its 2015 annual scientific session in San Francisco (May 6-9), the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) is releasing a next generation Digital Member Platform specifically built to leverage digital media and to benefit from search engine optimization and the practice-building power of patient reviews.

The new platform integrates many aspects of an AACD member-dentist’s online reputation and facilitates the organic pageranking of member profile pages. The platform includes a new, consumer-friendly cosmetic dentist locator/directory, Google maps, AACD-certified patient reviews, practice information, and social media links and feeds. Additionally, the platform can exhibit comprehensive photos and videos of treatments. Members choosing to fully leverage the new platform can upgrade to The Review Solution Pro, which allows them to collect patient reviews at the point of service. These reviews can then be posted to the AACD member profile page and other important sites such as Google+, Yelp, Healthgrades, Vitals, and RateMDs.com.

A core component of the AACD mission is to present member information that is accurate, transparent, and useful to consumers, recognized members, and dental professionals. AACD President Dr. James Hastings says, “The release of the new Digital Member Platform – tied into our Find a Dentist locator – represents our commitment to educate AACD members in comprehensive cosmetic dentistry and responsible esthetics, and to offer the digital tools that can deliver real practice growth for our members.”

“What we’ve recognized”, says Michael DiFrisco, Chief Marketing Officer for the Academy, “is that online content impacts the bottom line for our members. Since an expectation of membership in the AACD is that affiliation will help members become more successful, this new platform addresses many of the core online business-drivers our members need through one unified solution.”

The AACD has entered into a long-term service agreement with Third Coast Interactive (3Ci) based in Nashville, Tennessee, to develop the proprietary platform. The firm specializes in online reputation management, digital branding, and consulting. “We are developing many relationships with associations in North America. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry represents the progressive and innovative thinking that membership organizations need to remain relevant and competitive,” says 3Ci COO Steven Wyer. “We are very excited to deliver such a robust and comprehensive technology platform to the AACD.”
