Evelyn Lucas-Perry New ADEA Public Policy Research Director

Posted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Ann Arbor, MI — June 6, 2012 — Dr. Evelyn Lucas-Perry, who earned both her DDS and a master’s degree in public health in 2011, has been named the new director of Public Policy Research at the American Dental Education Association.  She begins her work in the organization’s Policy Center on July 2.

In that role, Lucas-Perry will be responsible for conducting in-depth research and complex analysis of legislation and federal regulations which will affect academic dentistry and oral health care.  She will draft position papers, summarize reports, and prepare advocacy materials for staff that will advance ADEA’s approved legislative priorities.  She will work closely with the organization’s Advocacy and Government Relations staff.

“I’m excited to advance dental education policy at ADEA,” Lucas-Perry said.  “Having the opportunity to integrate multiple disciplines – dentistry, public health, and research – so early in my career is a testament to my outstanding mentors and professors at Michigan.”  She added that her education at the University of Michigan “prepared me well beyond the fundamental professional knowledge and clinical expertise.  I had the freedom and encouragement to explore my interests which ultimately led to initiating the dual-degree DDS/MPH program.”

Lucas-Perry is now completing specialty training in dental public health at the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.  In addition to her ADEA appointment, she will also pursue a Doctorate of Public Health in Health Policy on a part-time basis at George Washington University.
