Posted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Sixty third-grade children from the Edward W. Brooke Charter School in Roslindale, MA, visited the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) on Friday, June 8 for the second annual field trip to the School. Thirty dental students plus more faculty and staff volunteered that day to make the experience fun and educational for Brooke students and inspire them to pursue dental education in the future.

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter welcomed the students and visited with them in the Simulation Learning Center (SLC). Assistant Dean of Students Joe Calabrese ran a question and answer session for students. Faculty and staff members from throughout GSDM also helped plan and run the event. They include: Flor Amaya, Dr. Lina Benslimane, Sharon Boyle, Cindy Cadoret, Fadumo Egal, Dr. Mark Ferriero, Kathy Held, Meg Loadholt, Sheree Norquist, Thayer Scott, Dr. Woosung Sohn, and Bruce Spector.

GSDM May 2012 graduate Oshin Anjirghooli came back to play Captain Cavity Fighter, the caped superhero who teaches children to fight caries.

Dean Hutter said, “It is very important for GSDM to provide this opportunity to the children and I would like to thank Oral Health Promotion Director Ms. Kathy Lituri and all of the GSDM students, staff and faculty for their support in organizing this visit.”
