In restorative dentistry, dental adhesives are used for a wide range of clinical applications. To date, dental adhesives have been broadly divided into total-etch and self-etch classifications. Total-etch (etch-and-rinse) systems are the backbone of enamel bonding, facilitating the etch patterns on cut and uncut enamel. Despite their unquestionable success in bonding to the hard tissue, the total-etch approach tends to be the most likely to yield postoperative sensitivity.

Self-etching systems incorporate acidic monomers that simultaneously demineralize and infiltrate dentin and enamel to produce a reliable bonding interface between the tooth surface and adhesive material. Many clinicians prefer a self-etching technique for the ease of use and lower prevalence of postoperative sensitivity.

Most recent developments in dental material bonding advocate the selective-etch approach, in which phosphoric acid is placed only on the enamel cavosurface, following the application of traditional etch-and-rinse steps. The limitation of this technique is linked to the risk of inadvertent over-etching of the dentin, which can reduce the integrity of the overall bond interface.

BeautiBond: Seventh-Generation System for Predictable Bonding and One-Step Convenience

A newly developed formulation from Shofu, BeautiBond, uses a HEMA-free chemistry to maximize adhesion to both enamel and dentin. Available in both unit doses and bottles, this seventh-generation bonding system simplifies the adhesion process, decreasing the possibility of postoperative sensitivity. BeautiBond contains a carboxylic acid monomer to facilitate reliable adhesion to dentin and a mildly acidic phosphonic-acid monomer to validate predictable bonding to enamel without the risk of over-etching. The carboxylic acid also works as an MMP inhibitor, helping to impede the enzymatic breakdown of the collagen that makes up the dentin structure, thus extending the lifespan of the bonded restoration. BeautiBond enables a single-coat application for a shorter working time. Its remarkably low film thickness (5 µm) and ideal viscosity make the placement and coverage of the tooth surface easier and more efficient in any cavity class.

• Powerful, predictable, and sensitivity-free adhesion with a focus on long-lasting esthetics
• High shear bond strength to both enamel (26.4 MPa) and dentin (27.8 MPa)
• Exceptionally low film thickness (5 µm)
• Comparative 3-year clinical study showed 0% sensitivity and 93.7% retention rate, with half the failure rate of a leading brand adhesive1
• Easy to use right out of the bottle or in a unit-dose ampoule to eliminate the risk of cross contamination or having the solvent evaporate from the uncapped bottle

FL-Bond II: Strong Adhesive System with Fluoride-Releasing and Antibacterial Properties

FL-Bond II is a sixth-generation, two-step, self-etching adhesive system inclusive of a dual-monomer primer and fluoride-releasing bonding agent to facilitate a strong adhesion to both enamel and dentin with a secure marginal seal for a wide range of anterior and posterior applications. FL-Bond II is radiopaque and biocompatible, with an ideal viscosity that ensures a uniform application with optimal polymerization in the marginal area and cavity walls for a secure marginal seal. The bonding agent contains 40% modified surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler particles that release fluoride and other beneficial ions, which are proven to inhibit bacterial colonization while increasing acid resistance. Studies have shown that clinicians striving to potentially reduce recurrent caries incidence can do so by using FL-Bond II as an adhesive of their choice.2

• Two adhesive monomers and unique photoinitiator facilitate predictable bonding to hard and soft tissues
• High bond strength to enamel (28.3 MPa) and dentin (37.7 MPa)
• Applied in a wide range of bond thickness (20 µm to 80 µm) while maintaining strong adhesion
• Inclusive of fluoride-releasing S-PRG filler particles for an extra level of protection against the microbial invasion via microleakage

CeraResin Bond: Universal Adhesive System for Repair of Direct & Indirect Indications

Simple and intuitive to use, CeraResin Bond is uniquely designed for chairside repairs of ceramic, porcelain, acrylic, and crown-and-bridge materials. The Ceraresin Bond kit includes Bond 1, which is a silane coupling agent essential for priming feldspathic porcelain and indirect resin restorations, and Bond 2, which contains powerful monomers and photoinitiators responsible for strong bonding to resin-based restorative materials. Moisture and thermal-strain resistant, Ceraresin Bond creates an effective adhesive interface between ceramics, cold-curing resins, and light-curing composite veneering materials, making the bonding experience predictable and long-lasting.

The adhesion procedure is quick and easy to execute and does not require the use of other components.
• Bonds to porcelain, ceramic, resin, acrylic, metal (with metal/liquid primer), and zirconia (with zirconia primer)
• Suited for bonding orthodontic attachments to porcelain veneers
• Resistant to moisture and thermal strains
• Stable material with a 3-year shelf life
