Elevating Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

3D imaging with GALILEOS can bring your practice to the next level

Anthony Ramirez, DDS, MAGD

Figure 1 | In 2009, I began my journey with GALILEOS 3D CBCT imaging. Sirona’s digital workflow is a gamechanger, and I utilize this 21st century technology to reveal, identify, educate, treatment plan, case present, and inform, all in one visit.

GALILEOS 3D CBCT imaging is the foundation of my complete dental examination. The diagnostic information obtained serves to aid my patients in understanding their dental problems and becoming partners in their own dental care. This is the concept of co-diagnosis, an innovation that has been well received by my patients. My in-office GALILEOS unit allows me to present my patients with their treatment plan during their initial visit, thereby making a second treatment consultation unnecessary.

GALILEOS is a groundbreaking system with sophisticated yet easy-to-use software that navigates a 3D maxillofacial radiographic volume in an efficient, streamlined manner. Scan, Plan and Case Presentation is how I engage the patient in an interactive conversation and review their dental and maxillofacial 3D images. This captures their attention and improves case acceptance as visual images trump words when explaining dental issues to patients.

Non-distorted 3D and cross-sectional views overcome the inherent limitations of 2D radiographs. When patients experience a complete dental examination that effectively communicates their conditions via 3D representation, they will make better choices as to what treatment they are willing to accept.

3D CBCT imaging allows me to observe bone anatomy, bony defects, and nerves in their exact locations. Pathologies that cannot be seen in 2D x-rays are revealed with CBCT, thereby leading to better treatment planning and improved treatment outcomes. Results of these findings are used to confirm or alter prescribed treatment, may help avoid unnecessary treatment, and create safer procedures altogether. I have found that the more complex the problem may be, the more important it becomes to use the superior technology of GALILEOS.

Today I also place and restore dental implants routinely thanks to the confidence and experience I have gained from utilizing GALILEOS and surgical guides. The use of Sirona’s SICAT guides and the advanced diagnostic information obtained from navigating through 3D CBCT images helps me avoid potential complications with vital anatomy, natural teeth, and poor implant positioning.

The standard of care has risen in my practice thanks to GALILEOS CBCT imaging and CEREC technologies.
