A Dentin Hypersensitivity Solution

Dentin hypersensitivity has long been a common problem affecting many dental patients, yet it continues to be an underreported and underdiagnosed malady. Recently, Procter & Gamble developed a novel, user-friendly solution targeting this widespread condition. Similar to whitening strips—which the dental industry has seen grow immensely in popularity—this new strip-type product utilizes oxalates to provide users both immediate and long-lasting relief from dentin hypersensitivity. The keys to these organic substances are their occlusive properties and insolubility characteristics when exposed to acids.

The oxalate gel–based strip product offers clinicians and patients a convenient way to combat this nagging oral health problem. P&G has conducted a variety of studies demonstrating the efficacy of this innovative technology, and this special supplement to Compendium presents key findings. I am hopeful that this information will benefit practitioners as they look to enhance their knowledge and treatment of dentin hypersensitivity.
