This issue of Compendium features a continuing education (CE) curriculum that offers clinicians valuable resources. The first CE discusses classifications of dental ceramics. It serves as a guide to contemporary all-ceramic material selection, helping dentists and laboratory technicians determine the ideal solution for a given treatment.
In our next CE the authors identify and discuss three serious drug interactions that can impact a dental practice. These interactions involve commonly prescribed drugs in dentistry. With an aging dental patient population seemingly using a growing amount of drugs for a variety of medical conditions, the article assists clinicians in recognizing such interactions and, in turn, provide safe treatment for their patients.
There’s another valuable industry resource that I would like to take a moment to acknowledge—the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. The Foundation, whose mission includes improving the periodontal and general health of the public through increasing knowledge of periodontal diseases and their therapies, is celebrating its Silver Anniversary in 2015. With the help of generous periodontists and dental industry professionals providing more than $4 million in support, the Foundation has been a leader in periodontal research and education since 1990. Through its scholarships and fellowships it focuses on recruiting and retaining top educators to preserve and promote a strong specialty.
There are many ways to support the AAP Foundation, which continues to impact the lives of its award recipients, the students they teach, and the patients they treat. Help the Foundation celebrate it 25th anniversary by attending the AAP Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL, November 14-17. For more information, visit periofoundation.org or perio.org.
While it may be easy for clinicians to find resources these days, finding good, reliable ones—like the AAP Foundation—can be more of a challenge. And speaking of valuable resources, visit www.compendiumlive.com for a wide range of CE, clinical articles, news, product information, and more.
