Dr. Asgeir Sigurdsson Appointed Chair of Endodontics at NYU College of Dentistry

Dr. Asgeir Sigurdsson, an internationally known authority on the treatment of dental trauma and pulpal pain, has been appointed the new chair of the New York University College of Dentistry’s (NYUCD’s) Dr. I.N. and Sally Quartararo Department of Endodontics, effective September 1, 2012. He succeeds Dr. Paul A. Rosenberg, who is stepping down after servingas chair of the department since 1990.

Dr. Sigurdsson came to NYUCD from his native Iceland, where he maintained a private practice limited to endodontics, while also practicing in London, lecturing internationally, and maintaining academic appointments, including a position as an adjunct associate professor of endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.

In addition to his UNC appointment, Dr.Sigurdsson also recently served as an honorary clinical teacher in endodontics at the University College London Eastman Dental Institute, and as an honorary clinical associate professor at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Dentistry.

He earned a dental degree from the University of Iceland Faculty of Dentistry, and a certificate in endodontics and Master of Science degree with an emphasis on pain perception from UNC.

Dr. Sigurdsson is a past recipient of the American Association of Endodontists Edward M. Osetek Educator Award, and has served as president of the International Association for Dental Traumatology.

We wish him well as he continues to serve the college as a full time professor and director of the Advanced Education Program in Endodontics,” said Dr. Richard I. Vogel, NYUCD’s Executive Vice Dean.
