Two-day Mission of Mercy Includes Pilot Program of Pain-Free Dentistry

Posted on Wednesday, May 28, 2014

PITTSTON, PA — May 28, 2014 — More than 1,000 people, including children and adults, will fill the 25 dental chairs this weekend as patients at the Rhode Island Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic, when The Community College of Rhode Island, Flanagan Campus in Lincoln, R.I., will be converted into a large-scale dental clinic. Between May 31 and June 1, the event aims to provide $550,000 in donated services to those uninsured, underinsured or unable to afford dental care.

Benco Dental, the largest privately-owned dental company in the United States, will enable the 80 dentists volunteering at the event to treat more patients and help create a pain-free experience with their donation of an innovative dental product: Onset®.

“I’m planning to introduce a pilot program to help my local Mission of Mercy event treat more people in need by providing faster, more pain-free dental anesthesia,” says Benco Dental Territory Representative Craig McMahon who met with Dr. Jeffrey Dodge, an organizer and volunteer with the Rhode Island Mission of Mercy. Dr. Dodge practices in Woonsocket, R.I.

McMahon, a North Smithfield resident, refers to Benco Dental’s donation of 200 units of Onset®, a buffering agent which works by hastening analgesia and reducing injection pain. It numbs within 35 seconds for some patients, and 90 seconds or less for most others by adjusting Lidocaine with a Sodium Bicarbonate solution to raise the pH of the anesthetic.

At the two-day event, McMahon will assist the dental practitioners with the Onset® Approach. McMahon first introduced Benco Dental to the Rhode Island dental community 17 years ago and has been helping local dentists, dental specialists and their teams by increasing the practice bottom line and serving all of their dental material and equipment needs.  To learn more about Onset®, or find a local dentist who uses the Onset® Approach for a faster, pain-free injection, contact McMahon at 401.640.7423, cmcmahon@benco.com or visit the company website at: www.benco.com.

The Rhode Island Oral Health Foundation (RIOHF), a 501 (3)(c) organization established in 2011 organizes this signature event where, patients will initially undergo a health and dental evaluation, and will then be provided with treatment on a first-come, first-served basis, based on their oral health needs. The Community College of Rhode Island Dental Hygiene clinic is a fully-equipped dental center, with digital radiography, a sterilization center, and electronic dental records. In addition, mobile dental equipment will be utilized for care services.
