Ceramill Zolid FX Multilayer Meets Laboratory’s High Standards

Exceptional zirconia improves workflow and bottom line without compromising quality

Through ITS 17-YEAR history, VIVIDX has developed into a strong niche laboratory for implant and esthetic reconstructive dentistry. Developments in the industry such as CAD/CAM and outsourcing have reinforced our desire to focus on full-mouth and full-arch reconstructive cases, because single-unit cases are increasingly being fabricated chairside or becoming commoditized in the laboratory.

As a small, quality-conscious laboratory, we are very particular about the products that we use, the processes that we use, and the dentists we work with. With the first flood of new technology in the industry, we found that much of it was good for quantity but not necessarily quality. At the time it seemed very rare for something to be faster, cheaper, and better; generally, you could have only two of those three. So we have been very selective with technology. In keeping with that strategy, we avoided full-contour zirconia for many years because the restorations seemed to be esthetically compromised.

Two years ago, we revisited full-contour zirconia, but still nothing met our standards—until we discovered Amann Girrbach’s Ceramill Zolid FX Multilayer. This product completely changed our outlook on zirconia. Finally, we had a material to replace lithium disilicate that looked every bit as good, and often better, while at the same time being stronger, more productive, and more profitable.

The material has been everything we hoped it would be. It is consistent, predictable, and esthetically exceptional. It offers us the opportunity to fabricate not only single units but also small bridges. Compared with some other multilayered zirconia discs that have three-, five-, or seven-layer configurations, Ceramill Zolid FX Multilayer’s almost infinite layers provide such a tight gradient that the transition from dentin to enamel is completely smooth, which is very important.

The material helps improve our workflow several ways. Ceramill Zolid FX Multilayer is completely millable, allowing for a more efficient workflow. Additionally, there is such a gradient from top to bottom that each puck comprises two different shades. Within one puck, I can mill A1 crowns and A2 crowns both in a gradient zone by nesting them a certain way within the puck, which is extremely important for efficiency.

The quality of the Ceramill Zolid FX Multilayer restorations is such that we have been able to price our full-contour zirconia in a similar range to our full-contour posterior lithium disilicate.

We have strong relationships with our clients whereby we really partner with them, and they rely on us not just as a provider of restorations to fill prescriptions, but as a true partner in all of the processes and steps. Dentists usually trust us to choose the best material for each patient’s specific situation. Having a material that allows us to continually maintain that trust is priceless.
