ORIGIN® Desktop System
This line of mills presents a compelling option that enables the dental laboratory to evolve with the digital revolution.
The recently launched ORIGIN Desktop milling system from B&D Dental Technologies can mill a wide range of materials, including zirconia (full contour and substructures), VITA and IPS e.max blocks, wax/PMMA, temporaries, and titanium custom implant abutments (a patent-pending feature). Although its footprint is small, its production capacity rivals that of many larger upright systems. B&D's modular approach allows a laboratory to start with a dry mill, the ORIGIN 1000, and upgrade to wet mill ceramic blocks and titanium custom implant abutments, when needed.
The ORIGIN Desktop system's capability to mill single titanium custom abutments is a major breakthrough that distinguishes it from other desktop systems. B&D's unique approach to metal milling ensures the precision required for implant abutments. For the soon-to-be-released implant bridges and bars, laboratories will need to choose the mid-size ORIGIN Pro Series or the full-size ORIGIN Pro Duo milling machines.

A few key components differentiate the three ORIGIN Mill series from one another. The spindle in the Desktop series is stronger than other comparable mills and is, therefore, able to cut single titanium abutments. However, it is not designed to mill successive substructures from a full-metal disc. The mid-size Pro series and large-size Pro Duo series use even larger spindles, which are capable of continuous metal milling. The dual-disc holder in the Pro Duo series is the only feature separating it from the Pro series. The second disc holder adds even more capacity to the unattended milling capability that all of the mills have.
