Reduce Patient Anxiety

Oraqix is a safe alternative to injectable anesthesia

Figure 1 | Many patients are fearful and apprehensive of needles and injections in dentistry. Local anesthetics may also take valuable treatment time to be effective. I have found that not all patients require or want local anesthesia for scaling and root planing. With Oraqix (lidocaine and prilocaine periodontal gel) 2.5%/2.5% non-injectable anesthetic gel, I am able to offer many of my patients an effective alternative to achieve profound anesthesia without using needles and invasive injections.

Oraqix is a non-injectable anesthetic delivered through a blunt applicator tip easily inserted into the sulcus or periodontal pocket, achieving anesthesia in just 30 seconds. The brief onset enables me to work efficiently and effectively to accomplish my scaling and root planing goals within a single appointment time. I have found that Oraqix lasts for approximately 20 minutes, providing anesthesia to specific sites or an entire quadrant based on the patient’s needs. I am able to dispense additional applications of Oraqix as required to complete treatment during a single appointment. Patients appreciate the absence of the prolonged effects of anesthesia that are often experienced with injectable anesthetic. Additionally, I find patient acceptance high with Oraqix as patients will not experience any postoperative discomfort at the injection site.

By including Oraqix as an option in my armamentarium, I am able to improve patient outcomes dramatically. Patients are more comfortable both physically and emotionally by reducing pain and anxiety. I find Oraqix to be a very effective, easy, inexpensive, and efficient option for local anesthetic.
