Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel Benefits

Solution for Dry Mouth and Sensitivity Sufferers

James DiMarino, DMD, MSEd

Figure 1 | James DiMarino, DMD, MSEd, is the director of clinical affairs at Premier Dental. He previously maintained a private practice focused on researching and implementing advanced dental technologies. He has trained and lectured across the United States, as well as England, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and Poland.

Dry mouth can impact patients of all ages while 25% to 30% of the adult population1 and 60% to 98% of periodontal patients2 experience dentinal hypersensitivity. If left untreated, xerostomia patients are at greater risk for developing oral discomfort, caries, gingivitis, and sensitivity. I have been searching for a comprehensive solution to treat these conditions, which also provides a high probability of compliance. Enamelon® Preventive Treatment Gel is now my treatment of choice.

Enamelon has just been proven in a clinical trial to be non-irritating for patients with dry mouth and provide an immediate and long-lasting, soothing, moisturizing, and lubricating effect for patients suffering from dry mouth tissues.3 It also treats/relieves sensitivity, and helps to prevent gingivitis and caries. Enamelon is a take-home preventive treatment gel (containing 970 ppm F) formulated with stabilized stannous fluoride and optimized with calcium and phosphate ions that offers an effective home-use therapy, and is only available from the dental office.

Since we started tracking the use of Enamelon, 75% of patients report the soothing/moisturizing of dry mouth tissue within 3 to 5 days.4 Many report being able to sleep through the night for the first time without any dry mouth discomfort; 85% of patients notice sensitivity relief within 7 to 9 days.4

Along with the ability to provide dry mouth tissue and sensitivity relief, Enamelon also has been shown to provide three times greater protection against acid challenges and over two times more beneficial fluoride uptake into enamel than 5000 ppm fluoride toothpastes with one-fifth the amount of fluoride.5 Rarely do we find one product that can offer such needed protection and benefits for such an at risk group.

Enamelon provides me with the ability to offer patients everyday relief and protection from sensitivity, caries, gingivitis, and dry mouth tissue discomfort. It offers efficacy, versatility, and safety—all in one product.
