Ahead of the Curve: Cone-Beam Scanning's Next Innovation

Rick Matty and i-CAT are now making their premium technology more affordable

Achieving success is only half the battle in business; sustaining it is just as important. As such, staying on top is the challenge facing the i-CAT cone-beam 3D dental imaging system, a member of the KaVo Kerr Group.

“i-CAT was one of the very early brands to drive 3D CBCT interest and adoption by doctors,” says Rick Matty, Director of Marketing at KaVo Kerr Group. “It is now a premium brand in the cone-beam industry because of our dedication to innovation and staying one step ahead of the competition.”

Until now, i-CAT’s innovation has focused on flexibility with its software and larger sensors, better resolution, and lower radiation for its scanners. The next step, Matty says, is making it more affordable for dentists to purchase—something that is addressed with i-CAT’s new V-Series machines.

“i-CAT is an award-winning premium brand that many doctors have not been considering because of the investment necessary to successfully integrate this technology into their practices,” Matty says. “Our latest innovation completely changes this, and take our high-end, full-size FLX technology and deploys it across three upgradable platforms that now make i-CAT affordable for every dentist. Starting at under $90,000, a dentist can own the premium brand in the industry and upgrade that machine as their practice grows.”

4 Key Takeaways

i-CAT’s upgrade process does not involve swapping machines. “This is a machine that stays in your office and can be upgraded there,” Matty says.

The key is making the product available to more dentists. “Now more clinicians can own this system affordably and thus expand the services they offer to patients,” Matty says.

Other i-CAT innovations include the use of i-CAT's scan data in conjunction with TxSTUDIO 3D software to aid the clinician's analysis of a patient's airway.

i-CAT is a partner to clinicians. “Rather than just selling a machine, we focus on creating a long-term, meaningful relationship via our world-class service and support,” Matty says.
