eCEMENT® for Bonding Lithium Disilicate Restorations

Resin adhesive system provides an easy and interactive solution for bonding restorations

Highly filled ceramics with high concentrations of lithium disilicate (LS2) crystals (eg, IPS e.max®* Press and e.max®* CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent, www.ivoclarvivadent.com) and a flexural strength of 360 to 400 MPa are suggested for both anterior and posterior metal-free all ceramic restorations. Perhaps the most desirable feature of this family of ceramic is the ability to bond them both mechanically and chemically with hydrofluoric etching and silanization. This unique feature is proven to strengthen the bonded restorations, minimizes the need for unnecessary additional tooth reduction, promotes an adhesive retention fail-safe for less than retentive and irregular preparation designs, and improves long-term durability when chemically as well as mechanically adhering to enamel/dentin surfaces.

An ideal luting cement for bonding ceramic restorations should provide a durable seal, have excellent resin conversion, and blend with the natural esthetics of the final restoration. Bonding ceramic restorations requires separate conditioning of both ceramic and tooth structure. Light-cure cement for anterior restorations and dual-cure cement with a dedicated dark-cure for bonding posterior teeth are suggested. Luting resins used for bonding thin anterior restorations should provide consistent color stability to prevent long-term color change. Having a complete and compatible system that contains all required components for bonding ceramic restorations reduces inventory of multiple bonding agents and cements, simplifies the bonding procedure and saves money.

The goal of eCEMENT® (BISCO, Inc., www.bisco.com) was to eliminate the guesswork clinicians currently have by creating an easy-to-use, ultimate indirect adhesive system. eCEMENT luting cement is specifically formulated to meet the requirements for bonding Press and CAD LS2 anterior and posterior ceramic restorations. eCEMENT contains both light-cure and dual-cure components to properly address the varying thicknesses and opacities required of high-strength anterior/posterior ceramics to mask defects and restore esthetics and which may significantly impede and alter the attenuation of curing light energy. The color stable light-cure with a ΔΕ <1.4 is recommended for thin anterior restoration such as ceramic veneers. Three shades (Translucent, A1, and Milky White) are available, allowing dentists to make necessary value and chroma corrections. The dual-cure component is formulated for bonding posterior restorations with thicknesses in excess of 2 mm. It features a high degree of conversion, exceptional radiopacity, and precise and easy cleanup.

In addition to the light-cure and dual-cure eCEMENT, the kit contains adhesive, etchants, and porcelain primer. Porcelain Primer silanization of the LS2 surface and the use of ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL® (BISCO, Inc.) on the prep creates a sealed surface to both dentin and enamel. eCEMENT is a simple to use, science-based, interactive resin adhesive system for all LS2-contained ceramic restorations.
