DEXIS® Digital Radiography Offers Dentists Positive Imaging Experience
Dental radiography has gone digital. The number of dentists using film is diminishing as 65% of dental practices have already switched to digital X-rays—reaping the benefits of faster, more detailed, and more environmentally friendly radiographs. “From a clinician, staff member, and patient standpoint, there are significant advantages to using digital radiography over traditional X-ray film,” says Bryce Servine, DEXIS’ Vice President of Sales. DEXIS has created and refined an imaging system that allows the dental team to gain enhanced diagnostics and improved workflow.
Servine states that the strict clinical focus of the DEXIS design process has led to greater ease-of-use and patient comfort. The DEXIS sensor features a direct USB connection—there are no control boxes for the dental team to manage. DEXIS also is the only company that uses a single-size sensor for taking digital X-rays. Servine offers, “Rather than a typical device that uses multiple sensor sizes, DEXIS’ PerfectSize™ sensor allows the clinician to take all radiographs, including vertical bitewing and pedo images because of its shape and its active image-capture area that is nearly the full size of the sensor. Doctors do not need to invest in and maintain multiple sensors and accessories. This design makes the workflow faster, especially in the case of an FMX that can be completed in less than 5 minutes.” He further notes that the sensor is ergonomically designed with beveled corners and smoothly rounded edges, making it comfortable for patients. “The DEXIS sensor is widely recognized by independent researchers, and was recently rated ‘Excellent’ for comfort in the Clinicians Report by Clinician Research Associates,” says Servine.
Patient comfort is only one of the benefits of using DEXIS digital radiography technology. “At DEXIS, we believe that diagnostics is the most important factor in why clinicians should implement digital radiography. Our technology gives dentists a diagnostic advantage over practices that are still using film,” says Servine. In addition to notable image quality, the DEXIS sensor allows clinicians to consistently capture highly diagnostic images at the lowest range of radiation exposure.
Beyond DEXIS’ cutting-edge hardware, the company also has created state-of-the-art software, which automatically captures, saves, dates, numbers, and orients images without dental team member interaction. These images are accessed in easily searchable digital records. “Our software is one of the reasons DEXIS has thrived in the digital radiography environment,” says Servine, who maintains that the software’s ease-of-use makes it a number one choice for clinicians.
DEXIS also provides an extensive support system. “Since a clinician is going to entrust DEXIS with their radiographs—one of the most important pieces of their diagnostic process—it is essential that we support them during their digital transition and beyond. To do that, we’ve built the largest customer care team in the industry,” states Servine. For clinicians who invest in a DEXIS digital radiography system, the company provides 4 to 6 hours of onsite training. “The session is very comprehensive, and we want to be sure that the transition is complete at its end,” says Servine. “We aspire for the day of the training to be the day that film is gone from your practice.”
Servine believes that in the near future, digital radiography will be used in nearly all US dental practices. He adds, “For all those who have made the switch to DEXIS digital radiography and for those to come, we will continue to provide innovative solutions that allow clinicians to have the best digital imaging experience possible.”
