As technology and new science become available to the profession at a rapid rate, professionals are faced with the challenge of translating and applying those innovations into meaningful practice. So now, more than ever, continuing education (CE) is a necessity, not merely an option. Almost all of the estimated 173,574 professionally active dentists in the us are required to earn a specified number of new ce credits every one to three years—depending upon the state in which they practice. Currently 47 out of 50 states in which they could practice have some requirement for CE in order for them to maintain their licenses; Colorao, Wisconsin, and Wyoming do not, although the latter does require dental professionals to have basic life support certification.
